I started googling front porches and doors, and was shocked at the care people put into them. Mine were bad and I’d totally missed the boat. I’m so meticulous about things, I still don’t understand the front door epic fail. How could I have been so remiss? I mean, the first thing people see when they come up to my crib, is a faded, chipping, oxidized calamity. The doors were a lovely shade of mid 1990′s misty green, a total turnoff. I put up a swatch of dark brown, and a bright green, neither worked. At this point I decided to take a chance on a bright and modern chartreuse. LOVES.
The actual sanding/painting wasn’t bad at all. The brass, that was another story. A large bottle of Brasso and about three hours of elbow grease later, the hardware looked semi-presentable. As soon as I have an extra $200.00, these bad boys are history, but for now at least they look better. I may attempt a spraypaint makeover, still thinking about that.
I hung my freshly crafted Lima bean wreaths, and voila. The fleur de lys was another 'brilliant idea' that I had, and while measuring I dropped it straight down onto a bare toe, not good. The toe hung on for dear life, but with the scar that’s now forming, my potential for a career as a foot model is completely non-existent. DRATS.
This entire project, including the wreaths, came in at under $50.00. I wish I had done this a long time ago, but live and learn. I love the green, and I love that this post allowed me to reference the very famous porno from the 1970′s, “Behind the Green Door.” I only know this because they talked about it in one of my all time fave movies, “The Cannonball Run” which is an AWESOME cult classic btw. RIP Dom Deloise.
UPDATE!!!! I have received a notice from my Homeowner's Association that these doors are offensive and must be removed IMMEDIATELY. They had the nerve to say they were better before, so now I'm forced to submit to a committee that will ultimately tell me they have to go. I have been provided with a lovely selection of early 1990's colors to choose from including the original sea foam green, a terrible yellow, and something that resembles the color of old ham. When my appeal is ultimately declined, I'm going to put the horrendous HOA 'approved' colors for an internet vote......let the fun begin.

That looks so good! I love a fun color on a front door.
so sorry to hear about the tragic end to your aspiring foot model career. On the plus side, you may have discovered a new career option as a front door designer! Nice job on the bright green.
Stopping by from the DIY Show Off.

PS I'm a new follower!
You are a courageous woman. I would have gone with white or black which is boring... I am really impressed you went this bold. I think it came out great and really makes an amazing statement. My neighbor has a fuchsia door; think she would notice if I painted it your fabulous shade of green????
Love the green. looks fabulous!
What a FUN color...love it!!!!
Blessings,
Linda
I’m hosting a CHRISTMAS OPEN HOUSE on 12/9…would love to have you join in on the FUN!!!
I understand the toe incident- I dropped a brand new roll of gaff tape on my toe 10 months ago and the nail still isn't right, so I too share your "no foot modeling" pain.
What a great make over! I'd be afraid to try that color, but it's beautiful!
Bright, Bold and Beautiful. So, glad you went with such a great color. Not many people take a chance with such a great color.
What a great color on your front door! Such a bold and fun color. What color did you use? I love it!

Gorgeous! Here from Better After...and this here door makeover is definitely better.....ummm after. Way to make a statement, who cares who likes it or not. I do, that's all that counts.
oh...and now I am following you! I have to see if you ever become the foot model you aspire to be :)
Linking over from Better After - Love me a bright door. Even better with some "magic fruit" wreaths. Perfection.
I'm linking over from Better After as well. Trying to figure out where the HOA..and good while it lasted..bits come in. Is there a back story I'm missing? BTW..love the transformation.kudos to you
Unbelievable! They look so good, is your HOA committee crazy?!
I live in an HOA controlled neighborhood. I HATE HATE HATE it. Your doors look great and should be left alone. Most likely the people telling you to redo them don't even live in your neighborhood, but are paid by your HOA dues. Try asking your neighbors if they mind the doors. If most of them are ok with it, see if that will sway the HOA.
WOW....that is my favorite color!!! I wish I could do that to my front door. Thanks for sharing!
I'm so coying this. Love it. Your HOA needs to get a life.
