Sock Wreath, Sock It To Ya

There are adorable sock wreaths hanging on doors throughout the blogosphere, I remember the first time I saw them last summer over at Blue Cricket Designs, so cute!  I had totally forgotten about wanting to make one  until I ran across Lori's Valentine's Day version over at My Life Among the Three Stooges.  LOVE!  I had to make one, or three, which is how many I have created so far.

Easiest. Craft. Ever. These can be made for around $3.00 with supplies from any dollar store, or less if you have the items on hand.  Foam wreath, colorful socks, and that's it. So simple.

Use a knife or rotary cutter to remove the toes and heels from socks in your favorite theme.  I used knee-high socks that I found at JoAnn's Crafts for 40% off, and then cut them in 'relatively' even lengths.  There were so many cute colors, I got slightly carried away.  I typically go with more monochromatic designs, but I was feeling daring.  Yes, that's about as daring as I get!  I will probably give all of these wreaths  away, and make a plain....one-patterned version for myself, cause that's how I roll.

The foam wreaths have a joint where they are connected, simply score the foam along the seam and it should pop apart quite easily without cutting all the way through.  Slide the socks onto the wreath form in whatever pattern your glittery Valentine heart desires.

When your pattern is finished, the wreath will need to be secured back together, otherwise it will be crooked in one spot.  I used a glue gun on the cool setting, if the glue gets too hot, the foam will disintegrate.  Once the glue is dry, arrange the socks so that the raw edges are tucked in.  I experimented with a few different methods, but eventually found that tucking them in worked with my socks. Embellish with whatever you like, I just used a simple wired ribbon......so easy and fun.

this is so CUTE! Great idea!
Thanks for stopping by my blog over the weekend. I didn't mention where I got the canisters, so thanks for asking- I got them at Target- I think they were $7.99 each. I've seen these occasionally at thrift shops, but a lot of times the lid is missing. Hope that helps! :)
Have a great week!

This is so cute. Are the socks children's size or adult? I'm guessing that using the adult socks would mean I could use less???

Grammy, I used knee highs, I think they must have been adult. I used 6 pairs and cut them up to make 3 big wreaths, and 1 small. You could easily do one large wreath with 2 pairs of knee highs....but I like mine kind of scrunchy, maybe you could get by with less. I made a small one with two pair of shorter socks, and it was fine. FYI, Target has darling socks clearanced for a buck right now....so you could get knee highs for a buck, tons of cute styles! Please let us know how yours turns out!
